To attend these sessions you must be happy and of the level that you can work independently - setting up your wheel, wedging your clay, throwing etc.

There will be a technician present for any emergencies, to help if you really can’t find something or to take any payments. They are on a work exchange program and will primarily be there to make their own work, so we ask that makers respect their time.

These sessions are for those who have done a course with us before. This is so that you’re aware of how our studio runs, where everything is, health and safety and studio systems.

You may wish to use these sessions just to practice throwing and then reclaim the clay.

But you’re also more than welcome to throw to keep pieces and glaze/fire them in our kilns.

In this case, you’re responsible for wrapping your work in plastic so it won’t dry out too much before you’ll be back to trim. We’d recommend to come back a week later to trim in this warm weather.

You must label your piece with post it clearly with full date, date you made it, the symbol (for the drop in sessions) and ideally the date you’ll be back to trim it.

Any work that’s left on the shelf for 2 weeks or more will be reclaimed, or if we can’t decipher the note - so it’s very important you clearly label the next course you have booked.

The studio is not responsible for ensuring your work is the right level of dryness for your next session. This is your responsibility to wrap your work correctly and come back to trim in good time.

30 mins before the end of the session, clear up begins. You’re responsible for washing up everything you’ve used, cleaning down your wheel, wedging any collapsed pots and moping around you wheel.

You can use as much clay as you like during the session.

Any pieces to be fired are charged at £5 per kg.

Firing is £5 per kg. (Same as the Developer course system)

If you’d like to fire a piece, once you’ve trimmed it ask the technician on duty who will weigh it for you (always at leather hard) and take a payment.

You must clearly label your piece on the bottom with the Drop In symbol, full name, date and whether you want it “bisque only”.

If you’d like to glaze yourself, please note that from being leather hard on the “ready for the the kiln” shelf, to being out of the bisque and ready for you to glaze it generally takes 2-3 weeks. Depending on the size and thickness of the item. So please book a session 3-4 weeks later to come and glaze.

Bisqued pieces left on the shelf for 4 weeks once out of the kiln will be disposed of due to a shortage of space.

These sessions are for potters hoping to practice, develop their skills and make a handful of pieces each session.

They’re not for potters who have commissions to fulfil as we cannot accommodate either large quantities of pieces or very large items going through out kilns from individual potters.

We will judge this on a case by case basis if we deem someone is attempting to use the sessions in this way.
