Workshop | Throw a pair of candlestick holders

Time: 2hrs 30 minutes.

Price: £85 including all materials and firing costs.

Who is this for: All levels are welcome and no experience is required. Although these may shapes look advanced, it’s totally suitable for beginners as it’s actually a different method to throwing pots and pulling up walls.

Come alone, or bring a friend and make a pair of ceramic candlestick holders for your table or festive mantlepiece.

What happens: The workshop starts with a demo from Izzy on the wheel.

After the demo, you’ll get to your wheel and start throwing your own pieces, under the guidance of Izzy.

You have unlimited stoneware clay to use in the session and we’d recommend to throw a few forms or varying shapes. You can then select your favourite two to make your pair at the end of the session. You’'ll pick a glaze which the studio will apply for you once the pieces are dried and fired.

How many people in a class: Up to 6 students.

Teachers: Studio Director, potter and prolific candlestick maker Izzy Letty runs these workshops. She’s thrown thousands of candlestick holders over the years in various forms and they’re her best seller, including being asked to make exclusive designs for Fortnum & Mason. She’s got plenty of tips and tricks to share that she’s learnt over the years of making these forms.

What can you expect to make: There’s no limit to how many pieces you can make - it depends on how quickly you’d prefer to work. You then choose your favourite pair of candlestick holders at the end which we will dry, fire and glaze for you. Extra pieces to be glazed/fired are £10 a piece which goes towards materials and kiln firing costs.

Your ceramics will be ready for collection roughly 4 weeks after the session. You’ll receive an email when they’re ready. Shipping can also be arranged if collection isn’t possible.

(Note that we’ll work to get your pieces available for collection by Christmas)
