Stoneware Studios offers a slower, more considered approach to learning pottery in the heart of SW London. Rooted in traditional wheel-thrown practice, the studio is a space for focused making, material understanding, and nurturing creativity.

We believe pottery is learned through time, repetition, and attention. Our classes are small and intentional, welcoming complete beginners through to returning makers. Care, for the work, the materials, and the people using the studio, sits at the centre of everything we do.

The Role

We are looking for a skilled and reliable Studio Technician to support the day-to-day running of the studio, with a particular focus on managing student work and kiln firing.

This role suits someone with strong technical ceramics knowledge, excellent organisational skills, and a careful approach. You will be responsible for trimming, glazing, firing, mixing glazes, and tracking student pieces, ensuring work moves smoothly and safely through each stage of the process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Trimming student work to a high standard, in line with studio guidelines

  • Glazing student pieces with consistency and care

  • Mixing and maintaining studio glazes accurately and safely

  • Loading, firing, and unloading bisque and glaze kilns

  • Labelling, tracking, and storing student work throughout the making process

  • Arranging finished work for student collection in a clear and organised way

  • Managing the student work collection inbox

  • Monitoring materials and flagging when supplies need replenishing

  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised studio environment

  • Communicating clearly with teachers and studio management about student work and firings

About You

  • Strong technical ceramics knowledge, particularly loading and firing kilns

  • Confident in trimming, glazing, glaze mixing

  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail

  • Calm, methodical, and careful with others’ work

  • Reliable and able to work independently

  • Previous experience in a shared or teaching studio environment preferred

  • Friendly and enjoys working as part of a team and around students
