Pottery Teacher (Wheel Throwing)
Part-time. Freelance
We’re looking for a couple of experienced potters to come on board and lead our ceramic courses, workshops and events. The immediate need is to teach group sessions on Saturdays or Sundays, with some weekday and evenings slots potentially opening up later down the line too.
About Stoneware Studios
Stoneware Studios offers a slower, more considered approach to learning pottery in the heart of London. Rooted in traditional wheel-thrown techniques, the studio is a space for focused making, material understanding, and hands-on craft.
We believe pottery is not a novelty experience but a skill developed through time, repetition, and attention. Our classes are intentionally small and calm, welcoming complete beginners as well as returning makers who want to deepen their practice. Above all, we value care: for the craft, for the materials, and for the people who come through the studio.
The Role
We are looking for a highly skilled wheel-throwing pottery teacher to lead a variety of classes at Stoneware Studios. This role is suited to an experienced potter with a strong personal practice and a deep understanding of both throwing and glazing, who can confidently teach technique, process, and decision-making at the wheel.
Classes focus on building solid foundations, consistency of form, and an understanding of materials, rather than quick results.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching wheel-throwing classes to small groups
Demonstrating expert throwing techniques with clarity and precision
Teaching glazing with a strong understanding of materials, application, and firing outcomes
Guiding beginners through core skills while supporting more experienced students to refine their work
Encouraging good studio practice, care of tools, and safe working methods
Creating a calm, focused, and supportive learning environment
Assisting with class setup and tidy-down
Communicating any studio or student issues to the studio technician
