Emerging Potters

Our first wheel throwing course for emerging talent, aged 14-17. Experience one of our trademark intensive sessions and learn all things wheel throwing.

What: Two, three or four day intensive throwing course for 14-17 year olds. Each session is 3hrs long.

Times: 2-5pm.

Price:

2 Day Course - £150 per student, per course.

3 Day Course - £220 per student, per course.

4 Day Course - £270 per student, per course.

Course structure:

2 Day Course - First day is an introduction to the pottery wheel and throwing. Centring clay, pulling up walls to form cylinders and shaping them into either mug bodies or vases. Second day is trimming your leather hard pieces on the wheel and attaching handles.

3 Day Course - Day one you’l learn how to prepare the clay, center it on the wheel and pull up walls on cylinders, mug bodies and vases forms. Day two will be continuing to explore the wheel with more complex forms such as bowls and jugs. The third day will be trimming pieces back on the wheel to refine the shape and add footings, attaching handles and some coloured slip decoration.

4 Day Course - One the first day you’ll master clay prep, centring and simple forms on the wheel. Day two will be a focus on different shape bowls, vases and jugs. Day three there’s the option to into more complex forms such as lidded jars or candlestick holders. The final day will be trimming your work, attaching composit forms, handles and coloured slip decoration.

What’s included: Unlimited clay during the session. At the end each student selects their favourite (3, 5 or 7) pieces which the studio will dry, glaze (clear glaze) and fire for you.

Age range: This workshop is for 14-17 year olds.

Experience level: No prior pottery experience is necessary. We will start with the foundations.

Work Collection: Roughly 4-6 weeks after the workshop you’ll receive an email to collect.

Tutors: These sessions are led by our teachers Regina and Ella.

Supervision: All our tutors are Enhanced DBS checked.

Cancellation policy: 7 days. Unfortunately we can’t accept cancellations due to illness, please don’t ask us to make exceptions. You’re welcome to give the class to someone else if you can’t make it - just let us know their name.
